Dear friends T & C Routch
I have long desired to answer your
acceptable letter which I received shortly after my
return home. To be remembered by you was grateful
in
as well as ^one which my dear Mary informs me
she has received. The remembrance of you has
often revived my drooping spirit - some previous
opportunities but more particularly that while un
der your roof, when light broke out of a cloud
retire into its own being and left a sweet
savour - I must now touch upon a tender stirring
which has prevented my writing because it opens
a wound which is still fresh - thy letter to my
dear deceased father was cordially received by him
he oft talked of answering it, said he loved thee
when a child and thy letter seem'd to brighten
the chain - when I returned home I found him
weak and feeble occasioned by a very severe fit of
illness he had in my absence - His spirit would
often seem revived on hearing me talk about
you we were mutually thankful being permitted
again to meet and sometimes when we have been
enjoying the favour he would remind us his
time would not be long and would say "I wish
my dear children would be more resigned to part
with me" - He would often speak of his dissolu=
=tion about the middle of the 7th month
last which put an end to his exercised pilgrim
=age no cloud attended his setting sun - his close
was peaceful - his understanding chear - often saying
