ISRAEL 40 CELEBRATION
Good Seats Still Available For Perlman Concert
Good seats are still available for the Itzhak Perlman
concert at the Ohio Theatre
on Wednesday evening, May
ll, at 8 p.m., to be followed
by a reception exclusively
for "Israel 40" ticketholders.
The concert is sponsored
by the Columbus Association
for the Performing Arts,
with a section of orchestra
seats reserved for ticket
sales through the "Israel 40"
Celebration of the Columbus
Jewish Federation and the
I Leo Yassenoff Jewish
' Center.

welcome to join in celebrating Israel's 40th with the
premier violinist in the

people have already purchased their Israel 40 concert tickets," they report. -.
Tickets for the concert/reception are on sale at
the Leo Yassenoff Jewish
Center's Box Office! The
ticket price is $50 per person
(this includes the concert as
well as the reception). Separate tickets to the reception, at $25, will be sold to
CAPA subscribers who
already have seats. Tickets

'Consume'Jewish Big Apple
In a four day whirlwind tour of Jewish New York,
, Temple Israel's Rabbi and Mrs. Bradley Bleefeld, accompanied by educator, Joan Folpe, led this year's
tenth grade Confirmation Class in an American Jewish
Discovery Experience. Among the sights and sounds
were: The Lower East Side and Ratner's, Sammy's
Romanian, the United Nations, Wall Street, Chatam
Sq. Cemetery, Windows on the World, the Spanish
Portuguese Synagogue, Temple Emanu-E], Israel's
40th Anniversary Parade and the Israel Exposition at
the 67th Street Armory. "This is an opportunity for our
students to spend four intensive days with the undivided attention of the rabbi," said Rabbi Bleefeld, "It
is a great learning and growing experience." Pictured

Robert Binsky, president
of Beth Jacob Congregation,
announces that Ruth Stavsky was unanimously chosen
by the awards committee to
be this year's recipient of the
congregation's highest service award for her dedication to the Beth Jacob Congregation. The award will be
presented at a banquet to be
held Tuesday, June 21, in the
social hall of the synagogue.
Mike Weiss and Hani Hara
are general chairmen for
this occasion.
Weiss and Hara have
begun to organize numerous
committees and have appointed chairpersons.
Ron Golden, chairman of
the Board of Trustees, said,
"I am particularly proud
that Ruth Stavsky is being
recognized for her 31 years
of loyal commitment to our
congregation. She is an outstanding woman who brings
dignity, charm and grace to
her unique role as the wife of
a rabbi."
Binsky and Martin Hoffman are this year's co-chairmen of the testimonial journal which will be published
in tribute to Ruth Stavsky.

Auditorium beginning at
8:30 p.m. !
Tickets, which include

(munchies), are on sale now
at the Jewish Center box
office, 1125 College Ave. (10
a.m. to 4 p.m.) or by phone
using a Visa/Master Card at
235-2058. The cost of tickets
is 58 prior to the event and
$10 at the door.
Galron, noted as one of
Israel's top singers, went
gold with her latest CBS
Records LP "Heart Felt"
within six months of release.
She has performed
throughout Israel in clubs
and on kibbutzim. Her own
special style ranges from
soft melodies to jazz to the
beat of rock and roll.
, The evening will also
include: entertainment,
dancing, an opportunity to
meet old and new friends
and a unique way to celebrate Israel's birthday.
Israeli beer and wine will be
on sale as well.

All members of the congregation and the Jewish community are encouraged to
participate in this journal of
honor. Binsky and Hoffman
further stated that a committee of friends of Beth
Jacob will play a role in expressing their high regard
and admiration; of Ruth
Stavsky.
Ruth Stavsky met her
husband, Rabbi David
Stavsky, yirhile he was stationed at Fitzsimmons Army
Hospital in Denver, Colo, in
Sept., 1955. They were
married in June of 1956 arid
arrived in Columbus in
August of 1957 when the
rabbi assumed the pulpit at
Beth Jacob Congregation.
Joel, their first child, was
born in Colorado Springs
(and was four months old
when the Stavskys moved to
Columbus), and Chanita,
Avram, Jordan and Seth
claim Columbus as their city
of birth.
Weiss and Hara announce
that further appointments
will be made in preparation
for the banquet and that final
committee members will be
announced shortly.
Award Presentations To Highlight
Jewish Family Service Meeting
Three award presentations will highlight the
Jewish Family Service
Annual Meeting on Monday,
May 2.
• The Janice Bamberger
Ballas Award will honor individuals who have had an
ongoing commitment to a
program of the Clinical Services Department. The
award will be presented by
Phyllis Katz, a past president of Jewish Family Service in memory of her sister,
Janice Ballas. '
• The 1987 Employer of
the Year Award honors a
company that has taken a
leadership role in expanding
employment opportunities
and services through the
Employment Resource
Center of Jewish Family
Service.
• The Sally Wasserstrom
Community Service Award
will be presented to a Jewish
senior who has been active
within the high school,
Jewish community and the
general community. The
award is in the form of a $500
grant for post high school
studies. Wasserstrom, a
member of the Higher Education Loan Program since
its inception, and a former
chairwoman, funded this
award to recognize and
underscore the importance
of teenage community
service.
In addition to the awards
presentation, the annual
meeting will include an installation of officers and
board and a recognition of
outgoing board members.
The Annual Meeting, a
dinner, will begin at 6:30
p.m. at the Leo Yassenoff
Jewish Center. Ed Krauss is
chairman of the event.
Jewish Family Service
'helps individuals and families in the two most important areas of life; home and
career. Henry L. Epstein is
president. Dr. Earl Yaillen
is executive vice-president.
National Council Of Jewish Women
Plans May 9 Installation Luncheon
Columbus Section National Council of Jewish Women
announces its annual Installation Luncheon, Monday,
May 9, at the Radisson East
Hotel. The couvert for the
afternoon luncheon is $12.50.
The luncheon will begin at
noon. Deadline for luncheon
reservations is May 6. Call
Bette Roth at the N.C.J.W.
office at 235-4133 for reservations or for more information.
Chairwoman for the afternoon is P. J. Maybruck. The
luncheon entertainment will
feature Mara Giuliant, a
National NCJW Board member and member of the organization's Hills (Fla.)
Section. Giulianti is currently vice chairwoman of
the Bylaws, Policies and
Procedures Committee and
was NCJW's National SPA
(State Public Affairs) coordinator. She has served as a
member of the National Affairs/Community Services
Committee, the Government
Relations Commission and
the Israel Affairs Committee. Previously, she served
as a member of the Women's
Issues Priority, the National
Resolutions and the Voluntarism Committees.
In 1984, Giulianti was appointed by the Governor to
serve on the Florida Commission on Drug and Alcohol
Concerns. In 1984, she was
appointed commissioner of
the Broward County Commission on the Status of
Women.
Giulianti, who holds a B.A.
degree in psychology from
Newcomb College, was a
finalist in the Woman of the
Year Award; Community Involvement Category from
Woman-in-Communications,
Inc. She received Campaign
Awards from the Jewish
Federation of South Broward for five years. In 1983,
