"The Jewish Community Coun¬ cil of Columbus, O,, has viewed with horrified surprise the re¬ pressive measures taken by the British Government in Palestine, most recently in mercilessly de¬ priving of their only hope for haven, the pitiful survivors of Nazi butchery. In turning them back from the very shore of Palestine the British have bru¬ tally disregarded the findings of the Joint Commission on Pales¬ tine Immigration which they re¬ quested us to enter and the ap¬ palling need of the so-long bit¬ terly oppressed Jews of Europe.

PITTSBURGH, >A. -^-The American Association ot Eng¬ lish-Jewish Newspajjers, in ses¬ sion this week Issued an appeal tor the "newpaper fraternity of America"—with specific emph¬ asis upon the major news distributing agehcies and news and radio commentators, urg¬ ing ihem to excise caution in sifting fact and termlnolgies presented to them with regard to the situation affecting the Jewish Dosition in the world to¬ day. The appeal to the news agencies and radio men reads as follows:
"To our colleagues in the newspaper fraternity and to radio and news commentators: A grave situation has arisen in Jewish life affecting the sta¬ tus of a million and a quarter survivors from Nazism in Eur¬ ope and the Jewish community of 600,000 in Palestine, Their status is a matter of grave con- oem to the Jews of America and the entire world. Repre¬ senting the people to wiiom history tragically apportioned the major share of» suffering at the hands of the Nazis, the Jews of America consider it a moral responsibility tp exeri every ounce of energy to bring succor to the sufferers and to help assure security for those who have fotmd havens of rof- tige in their andent homeland; as well as to make it ppsslbte tor those who.ShoseVto-jllycii-tt^^ 'n(^f«liy^i'Jife:;^ln»Zl()»a

has not been given the right either to exclude Jews from Palestine or to coin the term 'illegal'. Great Britain's rjght is limited to serving as the man¬ datory power to administer Pal- ¦ estine in behalf of the laita lamented League of Nations. The exclusion of Jews from Palestine, their incarceration' in Brltish-madie ghettos and con¬ centration camps in Cyprus and North Africa, represent an abuse of such rights and the only step of illegality in the Bit- uation affecting Palestine. But to refer to Jews who seek to enter Palestine as 'illegal' serves to create doubts and prejudices which should be for¬ eign to liberty-loving Ameri¬ cans.
"Our plea with the newspap¬ ermen of Amerloa is that they should be cautious, that they should not fall victims to vic¬ ious propaganda which paints the victims of Nazism who have survived 13 years pf suf-' fering in Inglorious terms.

'. "If a ihessage 'of coaMort and security is, td be fpund for the sufferers, It is Imperative that their' petition should not be nilsrepresented and that their needs should be fully under¬ stood. With this in view we address this appeal to our col¬ leagues who reach the tens of millions of readers of American newspapers and radio listeners: "Jews are seeking to create in Palestine a community where they can live in peace with their neighbors. This peace is marred by the locking of- Pal¬ estine's doors and by represent¬ ing the defenders of the home¬ land as 'terrorists'. While we condemn terrorism and deplore it aa much as any one, we desire to point out that it is wrong to confuse the defense of just rights, as contrasted with 'ter¬ rorism' and that we should not be permitted to mar the feel¬ ings of freedom-loving Ameri¬ cans for the fighters for justice tadt, Ohio Jewish of Zion, We plead with our fei-1 Columbus, 0. low-newsmen to refrain from iisdng the term 'terrorists' in¬ discriminately when referring to those who seek to make pos¬ sible the entrance of our early American history. To the Brit¬ ish, George Washmgton and his brave associates were gangsters 170 years ago. But history rec- ordLs that they were great pat¬ riots. In Palestine the term 'ter¬ rorists' is Indiscriminately used to misrepresent patriotism, and we ask our press to be cautlpus In the use of terms which create deplorable feelings In the hearts of Pur nelghbprs,
'More serious errors are cre¬ ated when news dispatches con. tinually fall for the hoax cre¬ ated by unfriendly colonial ad¬ ministrators who have created the term 'illegal" with refer ence to vlsaless immigrants to Palestine. Jews have been giv¬ en the promise Pf 92 nations of the world, includng the U. S., that they would be given a chance to enter Palestine, thero to build their Jewish ¦ Natipn¬ al Home as of right and not on sufferance. Great Britain
