Columbus JewishrWomen To Launch Their
City-Wide Campaign At A Luncheon
Next Tuesday At The Seneca Hotel
In Columbus Jewish commun¬ ity's campaign for $725,000 in 1047 the Jewfsh women will again meet the challenge by their combined efforts thru the Women's DlvLslon, which this year is being headed by Mrs. J. g. Re.sler, 228 S. Columhia Ave., as chairman. Her co-chair¬ men are well known women who have for many yeat-K been Iden¬ tified with every worthwhile en¬ deavour In this city. They are Mrs. Simon LaEarus, Mrs. A. B. Welnfeld, Mrs. E. J. Gordon, Mrs. Harry Goldberg and Mrs. S. J.  Schlonsky.
In view of the tremendous task which this year faces the Women's Olvlslon in Its effort to again "go over the top" In its campaign, plans- have been completed for a luncheon meet¬ ing next 'Suesday, at 12:30 o'clocH, at the Seneca Hotel. A splendid program is being ar¬ ranged for this event which will include addresses by two lead¬ ing personalities who have in¬ spired Jewish audiences thru¬ out the country. The first speak¬ er will be Samuel Rothberg, Na¬ tional. Vice Chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, and the second is Mrs. Sophie Spanjaard. Although Mrs. Spanjaard Is the mother of an American born child, she, her husband and her son, Barry, were arrested by the Gestapo on Nov. 6, 1942 in the city of Amsterdam and, at the point of a gun, were forced to sign papers saying that they were volunteering their service to the Germans.

Spurred by 'what will no doijbt be a history-making dinner meeting next Tuesday evening. May ZOth, 6:30 o'clock at the Southern Hotel, the 1947 campaign of the United Jewish Fund of Columbus has gained impetus this week with the approach of this one big humanitarian under¬ taking in which all men, women and even the youth par¬ ticipate -year after year.
The campaign spirit is in the air. Workers are mo¬ bilized. Plans are nearing completion. Everywhere there is a grim .determination to make this drive the greatiest, mo^t intensive fund raising endeavor ever carried on by Ctilii'mlius Jewry. Thd gtwl tiiis year has,, been set for $725,000.	
According to Harry R. Roth, General Campaign Chairman, two outstanding speakers are coming here for this occasion. They are Samuel Rothberg; na¬ tional Vice Chairman of the Uni¬ ted Jewish Appeal for $170,000,- 000, and Reuven Dafnl, former British army paratrooper hero and Palestine pioneer. These two leading figures will tell at first hand the story of Jewry's mounting needs abroad and will point out the fact that the des¬ titute, homeless refugees in war- torn lands look only to America for their salvation.
In a statement to the Chron¬ icle at press time Chairman Roth made the following obser¬ vation: "The meeting Tuesday evening will mark the beginning of the general solicitation In the 1947 campaign by several hundre<l workers In the Men's, Women's and Junior divisions In Columbus and surrounding towns.
"This year, more than ever before, this official opening will provide a rallying point tor ail our forces and all our manpow¬ er for the largest United Jewish Fund campaign In our history," continued  Roth.  ,"lt will  slanc^
A.Z.A. SWEETHEART DANCE POSTPONED TO MAV 20th   .
Due to a miscalculation, the A.Z.A. "Sweetheart Dance" had been planned for the first night of Shavuoth. As It is the policy of AZA to observe alf Jewish Holidays, this affair has been postponed to Thursday, May 29th. 'TJle group will appreciate the community's patronage on that evening.
