BIOGRAPHY OF WILLIAM E. PETERS
William Edwards Peters, 1857- 1952, was a land surveyor from 1878 to 1888, Athens County, Ohio, surveyor from 1888 to 1891, and a practicing attorney in Athens from 1891 to 1939. Peters completed his compilation of o the “ Code of Land Titles in Ohio” in 1935 after 30 years of research.
SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE COLLECTION
The William E. Peters Papers consists of a book manuscript entitled “ Code of Land Titles in Ohio.” The manuscript is made up of Peter’s handwritten notes, covering seventeen volumes, compiling all charters, Indian treaties, grants, ordinances, and acts of the Colonial Congresses and United States federal government, as well as the legislatures of Virginia, New York, Connecticut, and Ohio, on which all land titles in the state of Ohio are derived.
